Movie Review Badlapur: This well-made grim saga would make you a Varun Dhawan fan
Badlapur is a good attempt at neo-noir, action-drama genre replete with fantastic acting, a gripping plot and impressive action sequences. However, perhaps the makers of the film knew that the end of the film would disappoint the audience, and that’s why they named it- ‘Badlapur- Don’t miss the beginning’ because that’s what would impress you the most.
By the end, the film ceases to justify its title because the strong characters neck-deep in the fire of revenge suddenly have a change of heart and decide to forgive each other. Or may be, the makers of the film are planning on making a sequel!
There comes a time in every actors’ life when he/she gets a chance to prove his/her acting mettle; seems like this one’s done the trick for Varun Dhawan. Just four films old in the industry and this good looking actor has proved that he is more than just a metro-sexual romantic hero. The director of the film Sriram Raghavan trusted this star kid with something so grim, so intense and so dark, and thankfully Varun lived up to the demanding role with shades of grey extremely well. Let’s just say, what Sarfarosh was for Aamir Khan, Badlapur might weave the same magic for Varun Dhawan.
But despite of all those praises, it would be wrong to say that Badlapur is a Varun Dhawan movie, because there is Nawazuddin Siddiqui too. As usual he is playing the grey character, as usual he is the mastermind local gunda and as usual he floors the audience with his swag of quick wit even while playing a grim role.
The film also has a string of other good actors like Vinay Pathak, Divya Dutta, and Radhika Apte. Badlapur offers a good scope for acting and each actor lives upto the mark which makes it all the more convincing.
More often when the film is this dark, music tends to be just about okay. But, not with Badlapur. You will enjoy the songs being played in the background just as the characters struggle with their predicaments on screen.
All in all
If you are planning to watch something that would give you your money’s worth this weekend, catch this well made, action-crime-saga.
Applaudable acting by Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin makes Badlapur a must watch.
