Firstly, we feel that the title of this Amitabh Bachchan starrer film is a bit confusing. ‘Election Returns’ or ‘Any Body Can Vote’ could have been the better title for the film. Secondly, we felt that director Nitesh Tiwari forgot that Amitabh Bachchan is playing a ghost in the second half.
Bhoothnath Returns is a film which is full of loopholes, yet the brilliant performance by Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and child artist Parth Bhalerao makes it a good watch.
Basic idea of Bhoothnath seems to have lost somewhere in the second part. Except for the first 45 minutes, Bhoothnath Returns is a serious film which has a very serious political theme.
Amitabh Bachchan speeches in the film, wherein he is convincing people to vote, appear to be more like an election campaign . In fact, we felt that Election Commission can use the film to increase the voters’ turnout this election season. Don’t be surprised if you hear in a few days that Bhoothnath Returns has been exempted from entertainment tax.
Is it yet another political film?
Keeping the mood of the nation in mind, many political films were released this year. Jai Ho, O Teri, Youngistaan-the list is endless. Bhoothnath Returns is yet another film in the list. The film’s idea or concept is not new. Corrupt politicians have often been challenged by honest protagonists, where the hero enters politics suddenly to fight elections. In the climax, aam janta too teaches these corrupt politicos a lesson. So basically the script is predictable. The only difference here is that the lead actor is a ghost (may be he doesn’t appear to be one).
However, Nitesh Tiwari’s (director) honest attempt does make it effective in parts. The good message in the film is worth a share.
How is Amitabh Bachchan? Is he the best actor in the film? How is his bonding with the new kid?
Bhoothnath was all about the bonding between a kid and a ghost. In the second part, bonding has taken the back seat and politics have come in the driving seat. Amitabh Bachchan is again brilliant, and Boman Irani as a corrupt politician is not far behind when acting is concerned. But the star of the film is child artist Parth Bhalerao.
Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor are there for just a few seconds in the film. Anurag Kashyap has also done a cameo in the Bhoothnath Returns.
How is the music?
There are just two song in the film which are music to ears. Other songs are just there for the sake. The film could have been made even without that.
Four flaws in the film:
1) Bhoothnath helps other ghost solve their problems. Why other ghosts who have similar powers can’t solve their own problems.
2) Bhoothnath is invisible but People look at him and talk in various scenes and songs.
3) Bhoothnath files nomination as Kailash Nath, but people vote for Bhoothnath.
4) Actors who have been initially shown as ghosts later become part of crowd.
