Airtel has partnered with Google to offer free Google services like Google Search, Gmail and Google+ to those in India with an Airtel mobile connection.

The company has launched “Free Zone” service powered by Google, as an innovative service that allows you to access Google mobile services on the go at absolutely no data costs. You can access Free Zone using any default phone browser and Opera Mini versions - including 4.3 and above for feature phones, and 5.2+ for smartphones. You need to sign into your Google account to use the free services.

Airtel mobile customers just need to visit airtel.in/freezone from their mobile browsers and can access the service without having to sign in to the service. After this start searching or sign in with your Google account to access Gmail or Google+.

What is interesting is that you can use Free Zone even if you haven’t subscribed to a data plan with Airtel.

When do you pay charges? (1) If you click on a link that takes you outside Google+ or Gmail or if you want to view an email attachment, you will need to pay data charges. (2) The first page(s) linking from Google Search are free, for pages thereafter you will need to pay for data usage

The only Limiting condition on the use of data on Free Zone is “up to a limit of 1GB per month”.
