The year 2014 was good for the Chinese company Xiaomi, as it was able to sell good numbers of RedMi 1S, Mi3 and Note in India. This company headed by the Hugo Barra, jumped into the top 5 list of Smartphone manufacturers of the world, at number 3 position. To retain its grown in the market the company aims to launch two new products next year.
One of these products will be a tablet that will come at an affordable price point, and the other will be the flagship phone Mi5 that could hit the launch pad as soon within one month.
The upcoming flagship is expected at the CES 2015
The upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 will be a flagship that could be announced at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) taking place in the first week of January 2015. This handset is rumoured to be one high-end device powered by the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor, says the Chinese website oizoioi. With the new phone, the company is looking at prospects to enter the US Market.
The news report refers to Industry Analyst Sun Changxu, who says the handset could be the first one with this fast processor from Xiaomi. Other specs of the handset could include a bigger 5.7 inch display screen with a 2K display resolution and fingerprint scanner like the Apple, Samsung and one HTC phones.
The handset could also take a jump in the in camera front too, from a 13 megapixel shooter in the Mi4 to 20.7 megapixel camera in the Mi5. This is the “likely the same Sony Exmor in the Meizu MX4” the report says.
Expected price and release date of the Xiaomi Mi5
The Mi5 after an announcement at the CES 2015 could be launched at a price of $325 (£208) upon release, a report in the IBTimes says. This when converted into the Indian currency at an exchange rate of USD 1 = INR 61.93 comes to INR 20,127.
This IBTimes report says the handset could ship to buyers in early 2015. This think might not be possible in light of the new reports surfacing about the issues in the Snapdragon 810 processors. According to a report in TechRadar, the chip starts overheating “when it reaches a specific voltage”. This could delay the launch of devices based on this chip.
A spokesperson from Qualcomm has told TechRadar that "everything with Snapdragon 810 remains on track and we expect commercial devices to be available in 1H 2015."
We will wait and watch to see when this new and awesome handset from Xiaomi is launched in the market.
