Ahmedabad: Rajnath Singh-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday gave a big elevation to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and made him the party election campaign head for 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Modi was anointed the head of poll campaign, even as the party patriarch LK Advani and some other senior leaders kept away from the deliberations of its National Executive meeting in Goa, an issue over which there appeared to be divisions within the BJP.
Ever wondered where is the family who bore this ambitious leader? Narendra Modi was born in an OBC family in Vadnagar of Gujarat on September 17, 1950. He was five siblings.
Initially Modi took up running a tea stall with his brother because his family was not well-off. His father took care of the finances by working in a flour mill in Vadnagar.
Despite being born in an OBC family, Modi and all his siblings received good education. His mother Hira Ba used to live at their ancestral house in Vadnagar after her husband Damodar Das Modi’s death. But she moved into her youngest son’s house in Gandhinagar in wake of ill health.
