Surupnakha lost her nose here
Surupnakha was attracted towards Rama and Lakshman and had proposed them for marriage. Both Rama and Lakshman refused her proposal and tried a lot to make her understand, but she kept on insisting. She was angry and came into her original avat5ar of a witch and Lakshman cut her nose.
To take her revenge on Rama and Lakshman, Surupnakha asked for Raavan’s help. Sita praised the beauty of Sita in front of Raavan, which made him lust for her. Raavan reached Panchvati and kidnapped Sita with a masterplan.
According to a popular belief among people here, taking a tour of Panchvati even today makes people feel the presence of Rama, Sita and Lakshman. This is the same place where Lakshman had drawn the ‘Lakshman rekha’ to protect Sita.
Large statues of Rama, Sita and Lakshman have been built and placed here so as to make people understand the importance of this place.
