Pune: This year, four Puneites featured in the prestigious list of Padma awardees declared by the president of India on Wednesday.
In fact, this year, five Padma Vibhushan, 27 Padma Bhushan and 77 Padma Shri Awards will be given to people from different walks of life.
Dr KH Sancheti, founder of Sancheti Institute of Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Centre, will receive Padma Vibhushan. He said, “I am so elated. This is the happiest moment of my life. I am glad that the government has recognised my contribution in orthopedics and this award is the biggest proof of it.”
SB Mujumdar, founder of Symbiosis University, too was delighted to be named for the award. I’m happy that the government has recognised my work and contribution in the field of education. I received Padma Shri in 2005 and now with Padma Bhushan, the contribution of teachers’ fraternity has been recognised. This is an award for Symbiosis.”
Satish Alekar, playwright and theatre personality, who will receive Padma Shri said, I’m happy to receive the prestigious award. Theatre is a collective art and thus this is the honour of theatre academy, Lalit Kala Kendra. For the past 45 years, I have been working in the field of art and my contribution has been finally recognised.
Industrialist Arun Firodia, chairman of Kinetic Group, was equally happy to be named for the prestigious Padma Shri award.
He said, “I’m happy but would have been happier if my parents were alive to see this day. Recognition and appreciation by parents is different as compared to others. So I’m missing my parents in this proud moment. Well, the award is an acknowledgement to our family that introduced vehicle for women. It is recognition for that.”
