Bhopal/Mhow: Expressing displeasure over interrogation of lawyer Jeetendra Sharma by NIA team, the advocates from high court, district court and Mhow court struck work on Wednesday.
The daylong strike, which affected the functioning of courts in the state, was called jointly by the District Bar Association and High Court Bar Association.
Wishing anonymity, a senior functionary of the association said, "A lawyer was being targeted by the NIA just because he was representing the accused. This was done deliberately to tarnish image of the fellow lawyer, which shall be opposed tooth and nail."
Jitendra, who is the cousin of Lokesh Sharma, arrested for his involvement in at least four terror attacks, was interrogated by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) at his house on Monday and Tuesday.
He is also district vice-president of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM). An emergency meeting of both associations was convened on Tuesday evening and decision of boycotting work on Wednesday was taken.
The court rooms wore a deserted look as the strike was total. The lawyers have threatened to go on an indefinite strike.
