Bhopal: Senior Congress leader and party general secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday cleared the air on addressing dead Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden as 'Osama ji'. Speaking to newspersons here, Singh said he had sarcastically called the world's most wanted terrorist Osama ji as he had been living safely near Pakistan's military establishment and was thus respectable for that country.
Dubbing the entire episode, which took place last Wednesday, as a "media creation", Singh asked, "What can I do when the media did not understand my sarcasm regarding Osama being found near the Pakistan military academy?"
Even as he supported the US' unilateral action to finish off Osama, Singh reiterated the need to bury a person according to the beliefs and rituals of his religion.
Congress had seemingly distanced itself from Singh's statement after he had on Monday slammed the US for Osama's at-sea burial, saying the terror chief's religious traditions should have been given due respect during his last rites.
