Indore: Are you sure you the chocolate you bought as Cadbury for your kids is indeed Cadbury? Look closely, for the confectionary major claims that Indore has become a hub of look-alike products that are eating into its sale.
Indore has earned a dubious distinction of being a hub for duplicate confectionary products. Renowned brands like Cadbury are being emulated by the copycats.
The matter came to the fore when Cadbury India recently dragged three confectionary manufacturers from Indore for manufacturing products similar to the ones produced by the well known company.
The packaging, trademark and other features are striking similar between fake and the real. The Delhi High Court has come down heavily against Indore- based confectionery manufacturers marketing products under brand names remarkably identical sounding like Cadbury India, said lawyer Chander M Lall of Lall & Sethi law firm. The firm represented Cadbury in trademark related legal issues.
While passing an order to restrain the spurious manufacturers, the court also observed that the various brand names of Cadbury India, such as Cadbury, Cadbury Dairy Milk and Éclairs are well-known brands, said Lall.
The lawyer said that the fake products are so identical to the Cadbury’s that it is almost impossible for kids to differentiate.
“The quality is so inferior of such products that it could harm health of whoever consumes it drastically,” said Lall adding that these three companies are flooding North Indian markets while keeping rates below the company products.
He claimed that the company could ponder over a possibility of filing criminal suit against such manufacturers if the malpractice continues.
