Indore/Delhi: Members of Team Anna will go on an indefinite hunger strike at Krishna Pura Chhatri from July 25 in a bid to press their demands for 'purification' of the Parliament.
Coordinator of India Against Corruption, Indore, Prahlad Pandey said he along with four other volunteers will sit on the indefinite strike, while around 20 people will be participate in the relay strike from Thursday.
He added that this movement is being carried out in all the districts of Madhya Pradesh as well as the country.
"A majority of our demands include constituting special team of retired Supreme Court judges for investigating charges of corruption against 15 union ministers. Investigation teams should be constituted for probing parliamentarians who have been accused of graft.
The cases of graft pending against the accused parliamentarians which includes 162 Lok Sabha and 39 Rajya Sabha members should be disposed of in fast track courts," he said.
Other social organizations including Swabhimaan Trust, Art of Living, Azadi Bachao Andolan, Abhyas Mandal have also offered support for the cause and their volunteers will also be present at the site of protests, he added.
Anna Hazare will also fast with his team
Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare will join his team at Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Wednesday and will also sit on a fast with them. The activist reached the national capital on Tuesday and was welcomed by a huge crowd. He has threatened to organise a jail bharo campaign if his demands aren't met in three to four days.
"I will fast this time. We had earlier decided that I will not sit on a fast. But seeing the enthusiasm of people, I felt I should also sit on the fast," said Anna.
He wants a Special Investigation Team to probe corruption allegations against Union Ministers, a fast track court to try cases against MPs and a strong Lokpal Bill.
A Team Anna spokesperson on Tuesday said Hazare will sit on an indefinite hunger strike along with prominent Team Anna members Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai from Wednesday.
Earlier, Hazare had announced that he will not sit on fast owing to health problems while his three Team Anna members will go on hunger strike to demand setting up of a Special Investigation Team to probe corruption allegations levelled by them against Ministers, a fast track court to try cases against MPs and for bringing a strong Lokpal Bill.
The reversal of his decision seems to be part of a Team Anna strategy to step up pressure on the government and drum up support for the protest at Jantar Mantar.
A corrupt cabinet is running the country: Team Anna
Prominent Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal has demanded that an SIT to probe the corruption charges against 15 UPA-2 ministers should be set up.
Kejriwal was addressing a press conference in the national capital along with Hazare.
“It is matter of shame that out of the 34 cabinet ministers, 15 are corrupt”, Kejriwal told reporters.
“There are proofs of corruption against former finance minister and President elect Pranab Mukherjee. It is unfortunate that Mukherjee will take oath as the President without the corruption charges against him being proved”.
