Indore: You could get to see level of pollutants in the air with the help of an online monitoring instrument to be purchased by the MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) Indore regional office.
The instrument not only would record data but would also display it online public to see.
This is the first of its kind system in Madhya Pradesh. Four such state-of-the- art systems are in operation in New Delhi and in some other big cities.
“The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has given a go ahead for purchasing this `1 crore instrument. It would be made operational in Indore by this year end,” said MPPCB, Indore, chief chemist Aparna Bapat.
The officer said that the instrument would help keep a track on level and quantity of pollutants like SO2, NoX and particulate matters present in the atmosphere.
Initially, the instrument is likely to be installed at Kothari Market which ranks on the top in terms of air pollution in the city.
The system would work round-the-clock and offer online air quality data.
Till now the pollution regulator records pollution data with the help of manual system installed at three places— Kothari Market, Vijaynagar and Sanwer Road industrial area.
In the manual system, the instrument carries a filter paper which attracts pollutants and later the MPPCB staff checks this paper to ascertain level of pollutants present in the area.
The new system is likely to offer more accurate data but the sensors of the instrument would be required to be taken care of properly for keeping the system in proper shape, said Bapat.
The CPCB has also approved a proposal of installing an online noise pollution recording system.
“These systems would not only help record accurate data but also would make public aware about the growing pollution levels,” opined Bapat.
