Raipur: The construction process of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) building in Raipur has been started. The IIM-Raipur building will be constructed keeping the IIM-Ahmedabad, IIM-Kolkata and IIM-Indore buildings in mind.
IIM Director BK Sahay, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) GS Bedi and other board directors inspected the land where the IIM-Raipur will be constructed and later visited famous places of the city.
According to the information received, the IIM-Raipur campus will be constructed by a foreign architect consultant company.
In 2008, the central government permitted setting up of the IIM campus in Raipur. At present, the IIM classes are being conducted in one block of the new building of the Government Engineering College (GEC). One batch of IIM-Raipur has completed its session. Few months back, 175 acres of land was allocated for the construction of the IIM-Raipur campus, but there was some problem in 25 hectares of allocated land, which has been solved now.
In addition to the IIM-Raipur building, hostels for the students, staff quarters, auditorium and other facilities will be constructed. The cost of the construction will be Rs 150 crore.
The IIM-Raipur should be constructed in three years, as per the target. At present, after inspecting the land, drawing design work will start and the foreign architects will play an important role in the design work. After the design work is finished, tenders will be invited for the construction.
The hiring of the professors for the IIM-Raipur is in the final stage. The IIM-Indore has finished interviewing candidates. Just a few professor-level positions are vacant now.
