Raipur: Mana airport will be now known as Swami Vivekanada airport. Union cabinet on Tuesday gave nod to the State government's proposal for re-naming Raipur airport after the great saint, who had spent two year here, when he came to Raipur along with his father in 1877.
Vivekananda stayed in the Raipur's Dey Bhawan.
Now Mana airport has joined the list of airports in the country like Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji to be named after historical personalities.
State government has received several proposals on the names of political leaders but the State assembly reached consensus on the name of Vivekananda.
Terming it as a 'historical' move, Chief Minister Raman Singh welcomed the Central government's decision. He said that it is a matter of great proud for the people of Chhattisgarh that airport has been named after a personality like Swami Vivekananda.
He also downplayed the reports of any kind of differences with Congress party on the issue.
