Hyderabad: After a PhD student of Hyderabad University was found dead in his hostel room after consuming some poisonous substance in his hostel room, his family has alleged that he was being harassed by a professor of the university.
Investigations revealed that the victim, identified as M Venkatesh, aged 26 years old and a native of Ibrahimpatnam from the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, had consumed some poisonous substance last night and his dead body recovered by some students next morning at seven.
Chandnagar police inspector N Vasu, who is examining the suicide case of the student, said that the victim’s friends had cited the non-allotment of a guide as a probable reason for suicide.
Meanwhile, some relatives of Venkatesh, demanding justice, expressed their dissent outside a private hospital alleging that the victim was harassed by a professor of the university.
The police said that Venkatesh’s body has been handed over to his parents after the post-mortem was conducted.
A post-mortem was conducted following which Venkatesh's body was handed over to his parents, the inspector said, adding that further investigations were on.
