Smriti Irani has a degree from Yale University? HRD minister asks to file PIL to unmask poll affidavit issue
New Delhi: The eleven MPs from India underwent six days crash course in leadership program at the Yale University.
The MPs attended the program at the campus of University in New Haven, Connecticut on June 19.
It is now being complemented by a four-day program of meetings, discussions, and interactions in New York City, ranging from the New York Stock Exchange, the United Nations Security Council, the New York Times editorial board, and the architect of President Obama's high successful social media strategy in his 2012 re-election campaign.
BJP leader Smriti Irani and C Ramesh from TDP were among the 2013 participants selected from fice regional and national political parties of India.
Other than Irani, several Congress, Shiv Sena, TDP and All India Trinamool Congress Party are the representatives.
In the academic program on the Yale campus, the delegation participated in discussions with Yale faculty on nuclear non-proliferation; the democracy movement in the Arab world; women's empowerment; elections theory and practices; political and economic developments in China; campaign finance reform; the environmental impact of shale gas development; Afghanistan and Pakistan after 2014; pharmaceutical innovation and patent law; and climate change mitigation.
The Human Resources Minister Smriti Irani remained very controversial during the Lok Sabha Elections 2014 held in April-May in the country because of her educational qualification.
It is notable that her educational qualifications was different in the affidavit filed in 2014 from the one filed in 2004 elections.
However, Irani on Saturday asked people to file a PIL about her educational qualification to know about the truth behind the affidavit controversy which took place during the elections.
Smriti Irani was present at the India Today Woman Summit 2014 on Saturday answering the queries of TV Today Managing Editor Rahul Kanwal.
When Rahul Kanwal asked her about which of her affidavits (2004 or 2014) were true about the educational qualification, Irani said "Please go and file a PIL against me in court, I shall give you your answer in court to settle this once and for all."
Irani also mentioned that she have a degree from Yale University. She stated "I do have a degree from Yale as well, which I can bring out and show how Yale celebrated my leadership capacity."
The 2004 affidavit of 'now' HRD minister said that she was a BA Honours graduate by distance education and her 2014 affidavit claimed that she had passed B.Com Honours first year. The issue had sparked a controversy during Lok Sabha polls.
