Jalandhar: After being harassed by police and media who photographed her against her wish, a teenage girl committed suicide by jumping before a running train on Thursday.
City police were on a drive to nab criminals in the Old Jawahar Nagar area when an Indigo car collided with an i20 parked there.
Alarmed by the situation, officer Balwinder Kaur grilled the two occupants of the car—Gaurav and Shivali about their details—and began searching the car.
Alarmed by the cameramen present who were clicking the goings-on, the girl Shivali begged the officer to let her go, but to no avail. The lady officer needlessly grilled her over how Gaurav was related to her and her parents' detail.
Threatened by it, Shivali even tried walking away from it all only to be apprehended by the cops and humiliated before the photographers.
She pleaded with the cops saying her family would get unnnecessarily dragged into it all.
She even allegedly threatened that she would commit suicide if her photographs were taken.
When no one heeded her requests, she quietly walked to the railway tracks closeby and flung herself before the Amristsar-Ambala passenger train that was passing by.
Police have registered a case under CRPC section 174 and claimed she slipped while crossing the tracks.
