Ludhiana: Punjab education minister annonced on Saturday that it would strictly implement the teaching of Punjabi language in all schools of Punjab from Std 1.

CBSE and ICSE schools in Punjab are not teaching Punjabi to their students and completely ignoring the language. Language department of Punjab govt complained education minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan in this regard on Saturday.

Punjabi language had been made a compulsory subject in schools of the state under the Punjab, Punjabi and Learning of Other Languages Act, 2008 but the schools have failed to follow the law.

The language department officials said that it was making a report on the schools that are not teaching Punjabi language on a compulsory basis. Such schools would be issued notices first and then, their NOC would be cancelled, they said.
