Jodhpur: The Engineering Project India Limited(EPIL) has begun the work to draw the project report for Jodhpur monorail. As per the provisions, a 20-25 km railway line will be laid down in the city for the monorail project. The authorities are also planning to introduce a new route for the convenience of the commuters in the city. The state government, upon detailed project report, will send a proposal to the Centre.
The Malaysian firm, Scomi, has been assigned the project to lay down the railway line in the city. The Engineering Project India Limited(EPIL) has undertaken a survey to ascertain the route for the monorail. The officials of EPIL and Scomi are working on the assessment of the traffic prone routes in the city. The monorail project is estimated to cost Rs 3, 500 crore wherein, laying down the railway line per km will cost Rs 140 crore. The Wilber Smith company had proposed a cost of Rs 2, 750 crore for the monorail project last year.
Another Malaysian firm, M Rail International, was roped in to conduct a survey for the monorail project last year. However, the officials of the firm never showed up for the survey in the city that in turn hampered the project work.
