New Delhi/ Jaipur: People supposedly possessed by spirits, said to be under the spell of black magic or possessed by malevolent spirits or ghosts flock Mahandipur Balaji Temple of Rajasthan to seek relief. As the legend goes, long ago the image of Lord Balaji and that of Pret Raja (the king of spirits) appeared from the Aravali hills. People suffering from malignant spirits and black magic or spell got relief when they made an appeal for relief to Shri Bheruji Pret Raj Sankar who holds his court and awards punishment to the malignant spirits, ghosts, goblins, ghouls, evil eyed witches etc. Many people claim to get relief here at the temple. Now, scientist, scholars and psychiatrists from Germany, Netherlands, AIIMS and Delhi University are trying to find how occult and traditional tricks provide medical relief to the patients.
The research project is jointly supervised by India and Germany. Some students are already visiting Balaji Temple at Dausa to do the groundwork for the project, said Professor PC Joshi, Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi.
According to Professor PC Joshi, the number of people suffering from mental disorders and problems is on the rise worldwide, and all efforts are on to understand the cause and various treatment methods. A team of scientists, doctors, anthropologists and scholars will evaluate all aspects of treatment and rituals at Balaji.
