New highway to offer better connectivity between Jaipur and Gujarat
Jaipur: The western part of the state will soon be better connected with the capital as well as neighbouring Gujarat. More than half a dozen highways are awaiting financial sanctions from the government after which Suratgarh’s connectivity with Jaipur and Gujarat will improve.
Sources in the public works department (PWD) said developers are about to give financial disclosures after which work on highways will begin.
The projects include Ajmer-Nagaur-Bikaner-Suratgarh and Sikar-Bikaner-Suratgarh. It will be ensured that far-flung areas of western Rajasthan are connected with Jaipur via Ajmer.
PWD officials said Suratgarh will now be connected with Gujarat as after the completion of this highway people willing to go to the neighbouring state will passs through Nagaur and Pali. The highway will be linked to NH-14 in Sirohi, making way to Gujarat.
This highway will be a boon for exporters of the Shekhawati region and Jodhpur who until now have been using Gujarat ports for transporting their goods, said analysts.
The officials said the civil works of as many as seven highways will start soon. Of these, construction of one highway has already begun while of others will start after getting financial sanctions.
All highways will be tolled and people will be taxed for using these.
It would take around two years to complete all these projects, which include two four-lane highways, the officials said.
Notably, the development of highways in the state is being taken up again after objections raised by the ministry of environment and forest stalling the progress of projects, including Kishangarh-Ajmer-Udaipur highway, which recently had recently received a green signal from the ministry but the developer is yet to begin the project.
