Jaipur: Pay electricity bill for four months and get power for the next 25 years. The directorate of the horticulture on Friday made this promise to farmers while introducing a latest solar pump in the parched land of the state.
The pump will be powered by solar energy and not the electricity. Thus, the pump will be able to reduce power demand in rural areas.
Also, it will be environment friendly as such pumps do not emit smoke that is generally discharged by diesel pump working at present. To allure farmers with these solar pumps, the directorate has also drafted an interesting investment plan. As per the plan, the government will give 86 per cent subsidy to farmers on the purchase on pump and tillers just have to manage 14 per cent of the amount. For instance, the pump with 3000 WP is available at Rs 5.37 lakh. To purchase this, farmers just have to spend Rs78,722 (16%). It is four times the amount if a farmer pays Rs20,000 as electricity bill per month. The rest of the amount will be financed by the government.
At present, the directorate has already installed 1,600 solar pumps in Sriganganar, Bikaner and Jaisalmer. “Farmers like this product. Now, we have planned to install 3,000 pumps in other districts,” said an officer associated with the directorate. He also added that even neighbouring states namely Punjab, Haryana and UP are also impressed with the project.
