President Barack Obama and his family will not move too far from the White House when his term ends in January 2017. Reports have emerged that he plans to move to a $6 million (around Rs. 40 crore) mansion situated in the opulent Kalorama neighbourhood of Washington. The neighbourhood is located at a distance of approximately 3 kilometers from the White House.
The mansion is a nine-bedroom home and eight and a half baths. Further, it’s spread in a massive area of 8,200 square feet. Mr. Obama had stated that his family would stay in Washington until his daughter Sasha completes high school in the year 2018.
Mr. Obama will rent the luxurious house which constitutes hardwood floors, white marble countertops, his-and-her master bathrooms and a terrace with formal gardens. However, the estimated monthly rent of the house will be approximately $22,000 (around Rs. 15 lakh).
The house, located in one of the wealthiest Washington neighbourhoods is owned by Joe Lockhart, a former press secretary and senior advisor to Bill Clinton. Mr. Lockhart was recently working as the managing director of a communications and political consulting practice founded by him, the Glover Park Group. However, he has decided to move onwards to Manhattan in order to work as Executive Vice President for Communications for the National Football League.
The aforementioned neighbourhood is home to various diplomats and it can also easily lodge Mr. Obama’s Secret Service contingent which remains with a President after leaving office. Moreover, the neighbourhood also has a good security presence as its close to the stretch of Massachusetts Avenue known as Embassy Row.
Mr. Obama and his family used to reside in Chicago before moving into the White House in 2009. He was an Illinois state senator at that time and his family still owns a home there.
