Manjula was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room in Delhi’s at Nalanda Apartment on Tuesday. She got married to Ritesh Virha in the year 2013 and her father Manoj Kumar Devak told that at the time of fixing the marriage it was made clear that Manjula would pursue her studies, to which her in-laws had agreed.

Manoj Kumar alleged that the in-laws, however, began torturing her after the marriage. He told that they wanted her to return to Bhopal, where Manjula was originally from, and do household chores. “After completing her doctorate, was my daughter going to do dishes and sweep floors,” asked her father.

The father of the deceased also levelled allegations that Manjula’s husband Ritesh and in-laws started beaten her up and making dowry demands of Rs 20 lakh after Ritesh quit his job of a software engineer in Bhopal and came of Delhi to live with her in 2015.
