Pune resident, Shridhar Chillal who made the country proud by setting a Guinness Record of holding the longest fingernails has yet again dawned headlines. Chillal held the record in the year 2015 for growing his nails for over 64 years to the length of 30 feet.
Having grown his nails from the age of 16, he’s now a whopping 80 years old. While we imagine growing and working with those long nails would have been an awfully difficult task, he never once budged from his path in-spite having undertaken a government job as a photographer.
Finally at the age of 80, he admitted to facing difficulties in maintaining his nails and now intends to donate them to a museum. However, the mere fact that Chillal bought the city of Pune to the limelight has gathered the attention of Pune Municipal Corporation and NCP.
Owning a Bungalow in Bibvewadi Gaothan in Pune enables him to pay an annual property tax of Rs. 15,000. Considering Chillal is now retired and has no source of income, the Nationalist Congress Party and Congress leaders have decided to stand up for him. The lot have appealed to the PMC to evade property tax on the basis of Chillal being a record holder.
While this weaver is now applicable to only freedom fighters, war widows and gallantry awardees, the committee is hopeful that well-known personalities like Chillal will be able to reap its benefits too.
