New Delhi: As the ArcelorMittal’s Saturday deadline nears, everyone wants to know what will be the outcome of meeting between Laxmi Mittal and French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday. The meeting comes against the backdrop of French Government's threat to expel the steel giant ArcelorMittal from France for ‘lying and disrespecting’ the country. However, it is believed that Mittal had himself planned to close two of its idled steel furnaces in France.
The meeting will come before a Saturday deadline ArcelorMittal gave the French Government to find a buyer for its shuttered blast furnaces in Florange, eastern France.
ArcelorMittal angered workers and the French Government when it announced a plan in October to close two furnaces at its steel plant in Florange, BBC reports.
At a time when euro zone countries, face with economic slowdown, are striving hard to lure investors in their countries, France is doing the opposite.
The Mittal family said it was shocked at a suggestion by Industrial Regeneration Minister, Arnaud Montebourg that France no longer wanted Mittal steel in the country.
