New Delhi: Twitter registered more than 20 million poll-related tweets making it the largest tweeted political event in US history.
US President Barack Obama scored another victory soon after his triumph in the 2012 US Presidential Election. Barack Obama posted a picture of him hugging his wife Michelle Obama. The picture supposedly taken soon after the announcement of the result which ensured a second term for the President was widely circulated on the internet.
In fact, the picture broke the Twitter record and became the most Re-Tweeted image in Twitter's history. The picture was shared more than 3,00,000 times in a mere 40-minutes.
The photograph also became the most liked images on Facebook with more than 22 lakh likes registered within four hours.
The title of the image, 'Four More Years', spoke a thousand words.
The President tweeted,""We're all in this together. That's how we campaigned, and that's who we are. Thank you. -bo"
The Twitter officially recognized the record with the following tweet, "With 20 million tweets, Election Day just became the most tweeted about event in US political history."
The US elections surpassed the previous best of 10.3 million tweets posted during the first round of US presidential debate.
Twitter played an important role in US Presidential elections. Both the candidates aggressively campaigned on the social networking website, hours before the polling sessions began in US.
