New Delhi: A fatwa was issued against Kashmir's first all-girl-band, Pragaash by the Grand Mufti Bashir-u-Din. The mufti said that music is not good for the society and the girls should focus on inculcating better values.
He further said that all the bad things happening in today's society is due to music.
Grand Mufti acknowledged that he issued the decree and told girls that music is not good for the society, as reported on Rising Kashmir.
Pragaash came under fire from fundamentalist elements of the society, after a live performance of the band in Srinagar. The girl band started facing abuse and threats via internet, forcing them to halt their performance.
The defiant girls received a lot of support from all across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who termed the attack as 'shameless'.
