New Delhi: Within hours after Chinese state media reported six officials have been fired after a man hacked and injured 23 elementary school students with a knife in central China's Henan province, the Chinese police released the shocking surveillance video of the stabbing spree.
The video shows a knife-wielding storming into the school and slashing a girl in his way. Released by local police to state-run China Central Television, the footage offers recorded images and video from Friday's attack in Chenpeng village in central China. The police identified the suspect as Min Yongjun and arrested him on charge of jeopardizing public security.
Following the incident, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday that two school principals, two township police officers, one township safety official and one county education official were sacked after Friday's hacking incident in Chenpeng village, Guangshan county.
A statement from the Guangshan county government indicated that Min might have been strongly affected by "doomsday rumors."
Xinhua said eight of the 23 students stabbed have been transferred to a hospital in a neighboring province for surgeries for facial wounds so they can have less noticeable scars.
