Pune: It was an unforgettable moment for Pune's very own singer, Vibhavari Apte-Joshi, when Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan praised her for her voice and thanked her for lending her voice for Aishwarya's character.
Vibhavari, who prefers to keep a low profile, narrated her meeting with film director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, his entire team, recording of the song and the CD release function, which was attended by none other than Amitabh Bachchan.
Vibhavari is an accomplished singer who has nearly 10 Marathi films to her credit and is a famous name in Marathi light music and orchestra programmes. It was her first break in the Hindi film industry during which she lent her voice for Aishwarya in the lead role in Bhansali's Guzaarish, opposite Hrithik Roshan.
Vibhavari said it was during the SaReGaMaPa Aajacha Aawaj contest for established singers, conducted by Zee Marathi channel in June last year, that Bhansali heard her for the first time. She had presented a Marathi song which impressed him. Vibhavari said, "I was tense when I went to his office in Mumbai. But he is so simple that he did not mind sitting on the floor to discuss music, which released my tension.''
She said Bhansali taught her the song 'Sayaba' and was happy with her rendering of the song. He recorded it over the next two days and Vibhavari left for her show in the US.
She said Bhansali had contacted her after Diwali 2009 to inform about a few changes in the song. After he finished shooting for the film in April this year, he again contacted her and the song was recorded with the same words, composition and music, but with a few changes to suit the situation.
Vibhavari said all team members, including assistant Shail Hada who himself is a singer and arranger for the songs, recordist at the Ava studio Tanay and other staff always encouraged her and she never felt nervous despite her first break in Hindi films.
Vibhavari said when the music CD was launched 10 days ago, she was not aware that none other than Amitabh Bachchan would be the guest of honour. She could not talk to 'Big B', but could seek his blessings by touching his feet during the CD launch programme.
She was surprised to find a talented and cultured Hritik communicating with elegance to her about the song and she could not believe her ears when Aishwarya thanked her for lending her voice.
Vibhavari, a post-graduate in commerce, is a student of Ahilyadevi High School and Modern College. She was pursuing CA, but could not complete due to her busy schedule. She is married to Anand Joshi, who is working with a private company as a software engineer.
Vibhavari is waiting for new opportunities in Bollywood as there are queries from big production houses after the release of Guzaarish.
